Blizzard Boost U.S. Christmas Season Sales Network

Submitted by: Himfr Ivy

For many Americans, this year’s “White Christmas” Not much. Many people’s travel plans are disrupted, there are only a few hundred flights on Christmas Day was canceled because of inclement weather. But for others, the storm is not always a bad thing, I believe the network marketing industry will be deeply contingent.

Storm caused hundreds of flight cancellations

Some in the southern United States city emergency declaration due to snow caused traffic crashes, 26, aversion to cold weather is also approaching the U.S. east coast, could have brought in New York and New England snowstorm.

Strong blizzard has caused the United States in the 25 air traffic chaos, over a thousand flights were canceled in the northeastern region affected by the major airports, including New York John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Airport. With the snow airline said the upgrade, more flights could be canceled. However, in the south, the Christmas season a nightmare for tourists had begun the day before, a real “White Christmas” has brought dozens of car accidents.

Washington Department of Transportation has prepared in advance to clear roads and deal with traffic accidents Wrecker 200 trucks and other tools, the U.S. mid-Atlantic region has more than 6 inches of snow.

Next will be a blizzard hit the northeastern United States. U.S. Weather Bureau issued an emergency weather forecast 26 and 27 in New York warned that forecasts in the two days, said New York could face 11 to 16 inches of snow storm also make the visibility to zero. Weather Bureau storm warning is also included Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, most areas reported in these areas could face 15 to 20 inches of snow.

Continental Airlines canceled 26 of 250 suburban Newark Airport from New York flights, United Airlines, through the airlines and Southwest Airlines canceled more flights landing northeast of the airport, American Airlines also expressed cancel the flight plan. Most airlines offer in the areas affected by snow free replacement flight service, and asked passengers to airline websites.

Internet sales jump up 15%

Aversion to cold weather, the traffic paralysis, will people have to stay at home, by the free delivery service to increase and attract a large number of online transactions, Internet marketing has become one of the biggest beneficiaries. Bloomberg News quoted a research firm reports that this holiday season, online sales in the United States shot up by 15%.

New York-based retail research firm Spending Pulse report released Oct. 31 from the beginning of this year’s Christmas season, online sales reached 364 billion U.S. dollars, a year earlier to 315 billion U.S. dollars. Internet clothing sales increased by 26%, the growth rate ranked first, up 12% of electronic products, general merchandise grew 11%.

“This Christmas season there are 6 days in a single day online sales more than 10 billion dollars, doubling last year.” Spending Pulse, said Narayan, vice president of Mark, which means that Internet sales in people’s consumption patterns in the proportion increased substantially. He said, according to the survey, the current consumption of a variety of areas has shown a significant recovery, which is in the past 3 years, the U.S. market for the first time ushered in the Christmas season more normal consumption. The agency also said that, except for vehicles and natural gas, Internet sales now account for 10% of all retail sales.

Eight men and several Spinka charities charged with tax fraud in Los Angeles

Monday, December 24, 2007

Eight men and five Brookyln-based Spinka charitable organizations have been charged with tax fraud and money laundering. Six have been arrested, and two are still at large.

The men charged are Naftali Tzi Weisz, 59, a Grand Rabbi from Brooklyn; Gabbai Moseh E. Zigelman, 60, also from Brooklyn and Weisz’ assistant; Yaacov Zeivald, 43, of Valley Village; Yosef Nachum Naiman, 55, of Los Angeles; Alan Jay Friedman, 43, of Los Angeles; Joseph Roth, 66, an international accounts manager at a bank in Israel from Tel Aviv; diamond merchant Moshe Arie Lazar, 60; and Jacob Ivan Kantor, 71, an attorney from Tel Aviv. The first six were arrested last Wednesday, and four of them have been released on bail. The FBI believes Lazar to be in Israel. Kantor is also believed to be in Israel according to other reports.

The charitable organizations named as defendants in the charges are Yeshiva Imrei Yosef, Yeshivath Spinka, Central Rabbinical Seminary, Machne Sva Rotzohn, and Mesivta Imrei Yosef Spinka. The FBI alleges that these charities issued fraudulent receipts for bogus charitable contributions and were the beneficiaries of fees charged for transfers of funds as part of a money laundering conspiracy.

By a 37-count grand jury indictment that was unsealed on Wednesday morning, Weisz and Zigelman are charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service and other crimes, 19 counts of mail fraud, one money laundering conspiracy count, 11 counts of international money laundering, and one count of operating an illegal money remitting business. Zigelman is in addition charged with two counts of aiding in the preparation of fraudulent income tax returns. Zeivald, Lazar, Naiman, and Friedman are charged in the main conspiracy count and with operating an illegal money remitting business. Zeivald is in addition charged with one count of mail fraud. Roth is charged in both conspiracy counts; several mail fraud counts; and several international money laundering counts. Kantor is charged in both of the conspiracy counts and several international money laundering counts.

The charges laid are that over a period of 10 years the conspirators solicited USD8.7 million in contributions to these charitable organizations, promising to secretly refund to the donors up to 95%, allowing the donors to claim the full amounts of the donations as tax deductions on their federal income tax returns. According to the FBI, this was done in two ways: Some donors received cash payments through an underground money transfer network involving Zeivald, Naiman, Friedman, and Lazar, some of whom operated businesses in and around the Los Angeles jewelry district. Other donors were reimbursed via loans made from the United States branch of an Israeli bank, organized by Roth and Kantor and secured on funds secretly held in that bank in Israel, to which the donations had been sent via wire transfer.

Several of the Brooklyn charitable organizations are schools. One such is Yeshiva Imrei Yosef, a private Orthodox Jewish school for boys in grades PK–12 with 312 students, which is one of 5000 such organizations approved for charitable donations by the Jewish Community Endowment Fund of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco. The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles draws a parallel between these charges and the creation of bogus schools in the case of New Square, quoting Jonathan Sarna, a professor of American Jewish history at Brandeis University, as saying “I think that in Eastern Europe, especially where corruption was rampant, it was very common for Jews to engage in, shall we say, ‘extra-legal activities’ when they believed they were doing so not for their personal gain but for the good of the community or for some higher purpose.”

His observation is that defrauding a corrupt government is part of the culture that has sometimes been carried in to the United States, and that people justify it when they believe that the money is going towards Jewish education. “I think the idea is that Jewish education is so important and so expensive and the folks say to themselves, ‘we’re forced to pay for public education which we don’t use’, and they manage to sometimes justify in their own minds these kinds of activities that are for the sake of a holy end.”

Sarna states that violating the law is not condoned by Jewish communities in the U.S., a sentiment that has been echoed in reactions from the Los Angeles Jewish community, such as that by Rabbi Meyer H. May, president of the Rabbinical Council of California: “One thing is clear: The Orthodox community deplores any attempt to defraud the government of the United States, and there is no excuse for it, and there’s no rationalizations that are acceptable. […] It’s against the Torah and it’s against our moral foundation. At the same time, regarding these specific individuals, they should be allowed to have a fair trial, as everyone is innocent until proven guilty.”

The FBI’s press release contains a similar reminder of the presumption of innocence.

Calls by the New York Times were unable to obtain any comments on the case from the defendants.

Suspected serial killer appears in British court

Friday, May 28, 2010

A man accused of being a serial killer has appeared in Bradford magistrates court in West Yorkshire today charged with three counts of murder. 40-year-old Stephen Griffiths is accused of killing Suzanne Blamires, 36, Susan Rushworth, 43, and Shelley Armitage, 31, all prostitutes.

Griffiths, a former van driver with a degree in psychology and studying for a PhD in criminology, gave his name as “Crossbow Cannibal” when asked. He has been in police custody since Monday when police were alerted to a CCTV recording that appeared to show a murder.

A caretaker had been reviewing footage from the flats where Griffiths lives when he saw footage of a woman and a man enter a flat early on Saturday morning. Two minutes later, she ran out and was followed by the man, who beat her to the ground and shot her in the head with a crossbow. Over the course of the weekend, the man was seen several times with bin bags and a rucksack.

On Tuesday, the day after the arrest of Griffiths, Blamires’ remains were found in the River Aire in nearby Shipley. She had been cut into several pieces and her head was located in a rucksack. Police continue to search for the other two alleged victims; Rushworth has been missing since June last year and Armitage vanished in April.

Police have searched much of Bradford’s red-light district, where Griffiths’ third-floor flat is located. Forensic investigations at the flat are expected to last around three weeks. There are plans to search landfill sites for bodies, and police may yet expand the inquiry to cover three more cold cases, although at present they have not been linked to the current inquiry.

Sniffer dogs have been used throughout the city, and police have been taking away plastic evidence bags. Some alleyways remain closed off. Police charged their suspect yesterday.

Griffiths was known as “the lizard man” in his block of flats owing to his habit of walking his two pet monitor lizards in the area. One neighbour is reported to have quoted him as saying he was studying for “a PhD in murder and Jack the Ripper,” and he has spent time in a high-security psychiatric hospital. During his five-minute court appearance he did not enter a plea, kept his head bowed and fidgeted with his cuffed hands. He said “Here, I guess,” when asked for his address.

As he stood in the glass-fronted dock, guarded by three security officers, he was watched by the families of Rushworth and Armitage, who were accompanied by police family liaison officers. Blamires’ family chose not to be present, but the victim’s mother Nicky Blamires, 54, has told the press that Suzanne was a “much-loved” family member even though she “went down the wrong path and did not have the life she was meant to have.” “Nobody deserves this,” she said. “All these girls were human beings and people’s daughters.”

Griffiths’ morning court appearance was followed by a second one this afternoon, at Bradford Crown Court. This time, he confirmed his name without incident. He was remanded into custody until next month, when he will appear in court again.

British media has been quick to compare the case to Peter Sutcliffe, dubbed the “Yorkshire Ripper”. Sutcliffe was a Bradford killer responsible for thirteen murders and seven attempted murders, including several prostitutes. Since his 1981 conviction he has spent most of the last three decades in Broadmoor high-security psychiatric hospital near London.

Honda Civic tops Canada’s list of most stolen cars

A 1996 Honda Civic

Wednesday, November 22, 2006

The 1999 and 2000 year model Honda Civic SiR tops the list of Canada’s most stolen cars.

Consumer popularity also assures the cars will be popular with thieves. Its the second year in a row the Honda SiR has topped the list.

Rick Dubin Vice President of Investigations for the Insurance Bureau of Canada said “The Civics are easy targets.”

Dubin said that once stolen, the cars are most often sold to “chop shops” where thieves completely dismantle the vehicles. The automobile’s individual parts are worth more than the entire car.

The sheer numbers of the cars and their lack of theft deterrent systems make them thieves’ preferred choices.

1999 and 2000 Honda Civics do not come with an electronic immobilizer, however all Hondas from 2001 and onward are equipped with an immobilizer. Immobilizers will be mandatory on all new cars sold beginning September 2007. The devices enable an engine computer to recognize an electronic code in the key. If the code in the key and the engine don’t match exactly, the vehicle can’t be started.

In third place was the 2004 Subaru Impreza, while the 1999 Acura Integra came in fourth, with the 1994 Honda Civic rounding out the top five.

In sixth place, the 1998 Acura Integra, and the 1993 Dodge Shadow completed seventh.

When asked why early model vehicles are selected, he said that, “auto thieves continue to find it easier to steal older vehicles lacking an IBC-approved immobilizer. We’ve seen this trend developing for several years, and these results confirm it.”

Another Honda automobile, the 1996 year model Civic filled eighth place, with the 2000 German Audi TT Quattro in ninth.

The American 1996 Chevrolet/GMC Blazer rounded out the top ten.

None of the above cars had an electronic immobilizer.

Triple limb-reattachment fails – boy loses foot

Tuesday, April 5, 2005Terry Vo, the 10-year old Australian boy who had two hands and a foot reattached by surgeons after losing them in an accident, has had to have the foot re-amputated. He will be given a prosthetic foot in its place.

The operation to re-attach three limbs was thought to have been a first – but was ultimately unsuccessful, with the foot having died inside, and receiving insufficient blood supply following the surgery to reattach it.

“That would lead to the small muscles in the foot actually constricting, the toes bending over and a deformed …. foot that is sort of clawed over and doesn’t have good sensation,” said plastic surgeon, Mr Robert Love today, on Australia’s ABC Radio.

“Even if you can get all of that to survive, he [would be] worse off than having had an amputation.”

“What is very disappointing is that for the first two days after [the operation] the foot looked absolutely magnificent,” he said.

Terry’s hands were healing well, said the surgeon. The prosthetic foot would allow him to walk normally, since his knee was intact.

Mat Morgan, Greens candidate for Coastal-Promontory ward.Image: Australian Greens.

Since June 2019, the people of South Gippsland Shire, located at the southernmost tip of Australia, have been without a local council, after a state government inquiry found “high levels of tension” within the council. Administrators were appointed by the Victorian state government in July 2019, who have governed the shire since then. However, South Gippsland’s council is scheduled to be restored with an election to be held via post from October 5-22, 2021.

Wikinews interviewed one of the candidates standing in this election, Mat Morgan. He is running as a candidate in the Coastal-Promontory Ward, and is endorsed by the Australian Greens. The Coastal-Promontory ward covers towns such as Venus Bay, Waratah Bay, Yanakie, Foster, Port Welshpool, and Toora, and elects three councillors to the South Gippsland Shire Council.

What Is A Polymer?

What Is A Polymer?

by

Rolf Keegan

A polymer is a term commonly applied to man-made plastics and composites. In actuality, this is a misconception as polymers are not limited to man-made materials, and are also naturally occurring. A polymer is a synthetic or natural chemical compound which is constructed of molecules that are bonded together in long repeating chains. The main benefit of using polymers is that they can be easily tailored to a variety of purposes due to their unique malleable properties.

What are polymers composed of?

Polymers encompass a wide range of natural and synthetic compounds, with a wide range of properties. All polymers are created through a mixture of compounds which are link together creating in repeating substructures. This creates a long repeating chain of molecules.

What are natural polymers?

Common examples of natural polymers include materials such as wool, silk and rubber. Natural polymers are produced by living organisms such as the silk worm. They are materials which are made up of raw natural materials such as protein, carbohydrates and lipids. Hair and nails are in actuality natural polymers, as are shells.

What are man-made/synthetic polymers?

Man-made or synthetic polymers are constructed from chemical human-made materials. Synthetic polymers are most commonly classified into four main categories: thermosets, thermoplastics, elastomers and synthetic fibers. With synthetic polymers the molecule construction is the same as for natural polymers; it is only the material composition that differs. Synthetic polymers cover a wide range of materials and uses, such as fabrics (nylon, elastic and viscose), house-hold appliances such as Teflon non-stick pans, and a vast array of plastics and rubbers. One very important difference between synthetic polymers and natural polymers is that synthetic polymers are most often non-biodegradable. Although today, many can be recycled reducing the negative environmental impact upon the earth.

What are the benefits of polymers?

Polymers are extremely useful and can be tailored for almost any purpose. The process of polymerization is extremely complex and unique. Polymers are durable and can be formed into a variety of shapes and used for a variety of purposes. Most polymers are also safe and non-toxic making them excellent materials for using in cookware, storage containers and for children\’s toys.

What are the negative of polymers?

The negative aspect of polymers mainly lies within the process of creating synthetic polymers. Synthetic polymers are manufactured from hydrocarbons derived from crude oil. The process of creating synthetic polymers has a negative effect on the environment as consumes a large portion of dwindling supplies of crude oil. They are also normally non-biodegradable, creating a negative impact on the environment. According to scientists it is estimated that a single plastic bag could take as much as 500 years to fully break down, and when you consider how many are thrown away on a daily basis, it creates a shocking image. Synthetic polymer materials are used in many disposable products, meaning they end up discarded and being sent to landfills. However, there is now thankfully a greater awareness about the negative impact synthetic polymers is having upon the environment, and more and more people are taking care to recycling their synthetic polymer waste.
